FUNKTIONALITÄT DER KOSTENLOSEN ONLINE-ÜBERSETZUNGTOOLS FÜR DIE ÜBERSETZUNG VON REALIEN

Summary
The development of free online translation tools is advancing continuously, with particularly notable progress seen with the development of artificial intelligence. Significant strides have been made in translating standardized texts, where the main benefits lie in the quantitative aspects of translation—speed, reduced time, labor and cost.
The aim of this article is to analyze translations of so-called realia, obtained using free online translation tools. To this end, we examined how these tools handle extralinguistic content that denotes cultural elements of a community. We selected a specific number of expressions from the gastronomy domain that are specific to the Serbian-speaking region and are represented on Wikipedia. We translated the Wikipedia article into German using three translation tools (Google Translate, Netprevodilac, and ChatGPT), analyzed the translation process, compared the translations and evaluated the quality of the translations obtained.
For the research, contrastive method, content analysis method, and statistical methods were employed.
